EnCantada is an independent company dedicated to providing children with an immersion into English and Spanish language through music, singing, adventure and play.
Every session is designed to be interactive for all children throughout the Early Years Foundation Stage and into Key Stage 1. We move from song to song using resources where needed and our bodies too keep little hands busy, little minds engaged and to develop their gross and fine motor skills.
Our sessions are available online as a subscription based service as well as face to face private EYFS and public sessions in the North Yorkshire and Teesside area.
The sessions use a range of music from traditional nursery rhymes in both languages, to our very own compositions accompanied with simple actions and plenty of fun to allow every child to get the most out of the EnCantada experience.
And that’s what EnCantada always aims to be, a learning experience from the very youngest age. It’s an opportunity to absorb language, interact with it, feel confident and above all, enjoy it!
¡Hola! Hi! I’m Jane, EnCantada founder and session leader. I’m a fully qualified Primary School teacher with over 10 years of teaching experience working in schools and nurseries in both the UK and in Spain. Before becoming a teacher, I studied music and worked as a professional singer having the privilege to play alongside many talented musicians.
Spanish has always been part of my life. My Dad, whose mother was from Cartagena, Spain, would teach us all bits and pieces of vocabulary and I was fascinated as a child listening to him chatter away when we visited our family and got the chance to hear him speak in Spanish.
I always felt a strong connection to the Spanish side of my family. As a teenager, I began to study the language myself after visiting family in Spain and realising I couldn’t understand my cousin asking me to tie her shoelaces! A GCSE night class was my only option at the time and I have continued to study it ever since. Spending summers working out in Spain and eventually moving there to fully immerse myself in the language and culture.
Returning to the UK and teaching a little longer left me brimming with ideas! So I took a leap of faith in 2019 and created EnCantada with the dream of blending all of my passions together, music, teaching and Spanish.
I threw myself straight into it and started delivering classes in public venues and then EYFS settings. Of course, nothing is ever as straightforward as it seems! 2020 came with lots of surprises including welcoming my little boy into the world.
During the first COVID lockdown, I started delivering online sessions and experimenting more with music and video. Soon the ideas began to flow and I started creating EnCantada Online with a great deal of support from Clive Stocker, who composes EnCantada music and Chris Chambers from Alpha Creative who designed this wonderful website.
Giving children from the youngest age the opportunity to access Spanish, alongside English, in a way that’s natural, enjoyable and beneficial to them is everything that EnCantada is about.
From delivering sessions, connecting with children and parents, meeting passionate practitioners, to creating music, content, resources, and all the bits in between! I couldn’t be any happier to have taken that leap of faith for it to have brought me here today.
EnCantada Online offers an easy to use and enjoyable opportunity to introduce and integrate Spanish into your setting without any prior knowledge of the language, or the need to source anything else yourself.
